World Series Game 1: Southpaw Showdown
Two left-handed heavyweights will square off on Wednesday night as the New York Yankees host the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the 2009 World Series (7:57 p.m. ET, FOX). Cliff Lee goes for the Phillies while CC Sabathia takes the mound for the Yankees. These former Cleveland teammates have pitched extremely well during the postseason and each could get three starts in this series if it goes seven games. The Yankees are a -163 favorite and the total is set at 7.5 at SBG Global. Unlike past World Series matchups this one has everything. Each team has a premier ace pitcher, both teams have MVP sluggers, and both teams can hit home runs. The teams met earlier this season for a series at Yankee Stadium and the Phillies took two of three. The Phillies are trying to become the first team to repeat as World Series champs since the 1998-2000 Yankees, and the first team to do it in the National League since the 1975-76 Cincinnati Reds. The Yankees are well aware that it won’t be easy against the defending champs.

Angels 5-2 in Game 6 of the ALCS on Sunday night, they not only won the AL Pennant and booked a date with the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic, they ensured that two of pro sports’ most obnoxious fans would see their teams vying for the World Series. Just kidding Yankee and Philly supporters…sort of. World Series Odds: Online sportsbooks have set the series prices and no big surprise here: the Yankees are reasonably steep favorites. New York is at -190 while the Phillies, vying for back-to-back titles, are +165. By virtue of the AL’s 4-3 victory in the 2009 MLB All-Star game, the Yankees will have home-field to start off the Fall Classic, which begins on Wednesday. In the opener, the Yankees are a -165 favorite while Philadelphia is a +150 ‘dog with the over/under set at 8. In the last 10 meetings overall between the Yankees and the Phillies, the two teams have posted a mark of two overs and eight unders.

Dodgers slight favorites for NLDS opener
The Los Angeles Dodgers host the defending World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday (8:07 pm ET, TBS). The Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in their best-of-five NLDS while the Dodgers swept the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 in their NLDS. betED.com MLB Playoffs Betting Lines have the Dodgers as slight -115 moneyline favorites with the over/under total at 7.5. The Phillies will have lefty Cole Hamels on the mound while the Dodgers will counter with lefty Randy Wolf.
