World Series Game 6: Phillies at Yankees

2009 World Series logo 2For the first time since 2003 the World Series will be going at least six games as the Phillies and Yankees head back to New York with the Yankees holding a 3-2 series lead (7:57 p.m. ET, FOX).

The Phillies were able to power their way to an 8-6 win in Game 5 on Monday and now will try and force a Game 7 on Thursday. The last time a World Series went seven games was in 2002 when the Angels beat the Giants.

“Definitely what we expected,” said Phillies relief pitcher Ryan Madson. “When we split in New York, they were saying, ‘Did you think you were going to go 2-0?’ We knew it was going to be a tough series going in – evenly matched teams in different ways.

“We’re planning on going seven games. That’s obviously the goal, and that’s the goal for any kid growing up – to go seven games in a World Series.”

New York is a -200 favorite for Wednesday’s game and the total is set at 9 at SBG Global. Read More…

World Series Game 1: Southpaw Showdown

2009 World Series logo 2Two left-handed heavyweights will square off on Wednesday night as the New York Yankees host the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the 2009 World Series (7:57 p.m. ET, FOX).

Cliff Lee goes for the Phillies while CC Sabathia takes the mound for the Yankees. These former Cleveland teammates have pitched extremely well during the postseason and each could get three starts in this series if it goes seven games.

The Yankees are a -163 favorite and the total is set at 7.5 at SBG Global.

Unlike past World Series matchups this one has everything. Each team has a premier ace pitcher, both teams have MVP sluggers, and both teams can hit home runs. The teams met earlier this season for a series at Yankee Stadium and the Phillies took two of three.

The Phillies are trying to become the first team to repeat as World Series champs since the 1998-2000 Yankees, and the first team to do it in the National League since the 1975-76 Cincinnati Reds. The Yankees are well aware that it won’t be easy against the defending champs. Read More…

World Series Game 1 Preview: Phillies at Yankees

World Series 2009 logoBy Chad Rogers

When the New York Yankees defeated the L.A. Angels 5-2 in Game 6 of the ALCS on Sunday night, they not only won the AL Pennant and booked a date with the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic, they ensured that two of pro sports’ most obnoxious fans would see their teams vying for the World Series.

Just kidding Yankee and Philly supporters…sort of.

World Series Odds:

Online sportsbooks have set the series prices and no big surprise here: the Yankees are reasonably steep favorites. New York is at -190 while the Phillies, vying for back-to-back titles, are +165.

By virtue of the AL’s 4-3 victory in the 2009 MLB All-Star game, the Yankees will have home-field to start off the Fall Classic, which begins on Wednesday. In the opener, the Yankees are a -165 favorite while Philadelphia is a +150 ‘dog with the over/under set at 8.

In the last 10 meetings overall between the Yankees and the Phillies, the two teams have posted a mark of two overs and eight unders. Read More…

Baseball playoff betting

MLB Postseason 2009 logoHey, I’ll admit it, I’m one of those people who complains about how long the baseball season is…but there’s something about October baseball and the annual Fall Classic that is truly magical…and makes the journey all worthwhile.

The Twinkies needed an extra game, but they finally disposed of the Tigers, capturing the American League Central division. The reward was a quick trip to the airport to head to New York for a game the next night.

Online sportsbooks opened the series with the Twins as underdogs in series price betting at +300, while the series price for the Yanks is -400.

After losing the opener 7-2, Minnesota is now 5-16 in their last 21 games against the Bronx Bombers and is currently on an eight-game Yankee losing streak. Read More…

Red Sox and Angels Series Preview

ALDS logoThe Red Sox and Angles will be the last teams to start up their divisional series, which has given bettors at least an extra day to prepare for all the exciting wagering opportunities available.

Right now, you can bet on each game, side and total, the series, including exact game props, plus numerous other player and team options at Sportsbook.com. Read on for a preview of the Boston-Los Angeles series, then head over to the LIVE ODDS page to analyze the options.

As if the postseason isn’t enough motivation, the Los Angeles Angels have a score to settle. The Angels had the second best record in the American League and that accomplishment means nothings to oddsmakers.

The Halos are underdogs to Boston, which is not surprising considering the history – in the last five years, the Angels have one win in 10 meetings with the Red Sox in the postseason. This can’t even be described as a rivalry since the outcomes have been so one-sided.

How will this year be any different than the last three times? Los Angeles feels better equipped offensively this time around. Only the Yankees scored more runs than the Angels in baseball this season. Read More…

Wednesday Preview: Cardinals at Dodgers Game 1

NLDS 2009 logoThe National League Division Series playoffs begin Wednesday and there is no better matchup than the one between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The two teams will open their best of five series with game one set for Wednesday night with an opening pitch at 9:37 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on TBS.

The Cardinals opened as a -140 favorite and the total checked in at 7 (under -115) at SBG Global.
